Next I Will Play…The Sequel

I’ve put together a list of eight games that I’d like to play next. But, as you know it’s difficult to do them all at once. So I’ve decided to put them up for a vote just like I did about six months ago.

Here’s how it’ll go. Out of the following eight games, the three with the most votes will be voted on a second time. The winning game will be the one I play next. However, if one game gets a majority of the votes right away, then that’s the only time that the second voting period would not be needed.

Call of Duty 3
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
Contra: Hard Corps
Fire Blade
Gungrave: Overdose
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Sonic Riders
Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Next I Will Play…

I have 29 games within my PlayStation 2 collection that have either been left unfinished or not played at all. Out of those 29 games I randomly chose five to be listed here for you to vote on. The winning game will be the next one that I’ll tackle.

And the five nominees are:
Call of Duty 3
Fire Blade
Midnight Club
Psychonauts
Twisted Metal Black

Update: Oops. I just realized that the list of 29 games is actually of all platforms and not just the PS2. This doesn’t change anything other than the fact that more than one platform is involved.

Pick 5: Hart704 Edition

pick5h

GameSpot’s awesome feature Pick 5 got me to thinking what games in my personal collection do I consider cool to have. Some are based on rarity and others are based on today’s going price. Another one is based on a common idea that’s rare to end up good.

These games aren’t your Halos or your GTAs nor are they your lame and uncool Madden games. Everybody has those which is why you aren’t cool.

Here’s the five games in my collection that make me cool.

1. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS)
I’ve noticed that quite a few gamers have this one in their collection. That would have to be why it’s difficult to find a copy these days. 2D Castlevania games are awesome no matter when they were made or what system they are for. However, this right here is the pinnacle of Castlevania coolness. If you don’t have this game, then you’ll never be cool.

2. Fire Blade (PS2)
Here’s an odd Midway title that’s actually better than most games not named Mortal Kombat that they make. Simply put arcade style helicopter games are cool. Especially the ones that focus on killing and destruction all in the name of getting revenge. Fun or not that’s always a cool scenario. However, this game not only has that, but it’s fun too.

3. Racing Gears Advance (GBA)
The idea of a racing game on the Game Boy Advance is a rare idea as is finding this game. Racing Gears Advance is a difficult game that’s made all the more so since today’s games are much easier than those of the 8-bit/16-bit era. Being cool means you can handle that challenge and being cool also means you have this game.

4. Street Fighter Collection (PS) and Street Fighter Collection 2 (PS)
These two games comprise of all five Street Fighter II games with the addition of Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold. All six games were ported over to the original PlayStation from 1997-1998. They came in excellent form which would only be noticed by those cool enough to have played these games in the arcades. If you think that Capcom Classics Collection got SFII right, then you are so far from ever being cool that you don’t know what being cool even is.

5. The Warriors (PS2)
Ah, yes, The Warriors. A movie that I’d never even heard of until the game was announced. I watched the movie and played the game. Upon doing so I realized that it’s the only game that’s worthy of it’s movie license. It stays true to the movie while also being lots of fun to play. Just like a game should be. You can own all of the newest mainstream movies to games that you want. However, to be totally cool, you have to own this game.

Video Game Collecting, Part 2

Just like Revolver said in his most recent post, I’ve also decided to collect video games too. However, while he’s also collecting import games I won’t be doing that part of it. I’ll just be sticking to domestic games for console systems that I already have.

The current four games that are on their way from eStarland.com are more recent releases for the PlayStation 2. Those being Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Mercenaries, and Project: Snowblind. Along with those I also purchased two original PlayStation games (Namco Museum Vol. 3 and Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit) for $5 each at my local Babbages and they were in great condition despite that it was only the disc.

Here’s a list of the games that I’m planning on getting in the future. This list will include all old and new games.

Out of all of those games both Fire Blade and Gungrave: Overdose were two games that I had never heard of before and they surprised me on how fun they looked. I expect to add Black to this list next month as it looks to be one amazing game.

More will be added as I look at lists for games on the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and possibly the Saturn.
