As I Saw It: E3 2012 EA Press Conference

PLEASE NOTE: This is my comments from Twitter that I made as the conference happened. If you can’t handle a difference of opinion from your own, then please DO NOT read this or comment.

* EA’s conf. has begun. Expecting suckage.

* Caution: Rich, out-of-touch man on stage.

* Dead Space 3 trailer. Go, go “spine-tingling.”

* Live demo lacks the, oh I don’t know, spine-tingling I was promised. What am I watching? RE6?

* RT @lightwarrior179: Dead Space 3 has morphed into a cousin of Gears and Lost Planet and it is so obvious I feel Captain Obvious threatening me from afar.

* Nice try at the end of the demo to claim you are still scary. #fail

* Madden NFL ’13 tells you that you aren’t good enough. :P

* The new Infinity engine. To “Infinity” and beyond.

* Michael Irvin talking about biting too much. Next thing you know he’ll go for the guy’s ear.

* Speaking of retirement: This game series needs to retire.

* Maxis rep. out to Facebook your Simcity. Subtitled “Social.”

* RT @jeffgerstmann: Dude behind us is losing it at every announcement. Simcity Facebook? “Oohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!”

* New Simcity shown (main version). Never been a fan so no comment. Has multiplayer.

* Battlefield 3 theme sounds like it’s used for torture.

* “Premium” service is just EA wanting some of that “Elite” money.

* Did that say “Own More?” According to companies like EA, I don’t own anything, I license it.

* Please remove this from my screen. That IP is old alright…and stale.

* Time for Mega Beard to tells us about Medal of Honor: Warfighter. You know, more CoD. *rolls eyes*

* Reminder: Middle East = topical, Arabs speak English.

* RT @lightwarrior179: Medal of Honor. Do they still have those ULTRA-realistic beards? Or is the focus on MAN-chest hair this time?
Reply::Beard and chest hair DLC.

* RT @lightwarrior179: No pubes? Or is that a secret mod reserved for the “Hot Coffee” DLC?
Reply::No Comment ROFL!

* Okay, @EA, enough with the ULTRA MAN GAMES!

* All of these FPS CoD games are making me want to dislike the movie Black Hawk Down. Screw them!

* RT @JimSterling: In Medal of Honor: GunGunGun, weld guns to your guns so the guns shoot guns at an army of giant guns armed with giant guns.

FIFA ’13
* I hate to break it to this FIFA guy, but he must be told. You aren’t innovative! You’re simulating real life. NOT innovative!

* FIFA 13 is also not any sort of revolution. Just stop. I don’t buy marketing speak, numbnuts.

* Hey, look! It’s Dana White! EA found a bigger douchebag than themselves.

* Herp, derp is all I hear out of Dana’s mouth.

* Need For Speed; Most Wanted? Criteron is making it, but didn’t we already get a “Most Wanted?”

* I wish they’d go back to Burnout. Crash doesn’t count!

* It’s pretty obvious by fan reactions: They want a new Burnout instead.

* RT @lightwarrior179: Most Wanted seems closer to Burnout Paradise than one would have imagined. That’s a good thing of course.
Reply:: Damn right. Let’s hope so anyway.

* Demo time for Crysis 3. It’s another shooter. It had better do different things than BF, CoD, or MoH and more of it.

* “If you’re watching on the Internet, thanks for being here.” I’m not sure how I’m able to be there. Johnny’s a bit confused on how the Internet works.

New Releases 2011: Oct. 16-29

You’ve got be really crazy to not want Batman: Arkham City over anything else in these next two weeks. Regardless, I was quite surprised to see a new Kirby game on Wii. Another game I might get is Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One.

The House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut (PS3)
Infamous 2: Festival of Blood (PS3)

New Releases 2010: Aug. 22-Sept. 4

Unlike the previous two weeks, this one and the next are stacked with just about something for everybody.

Of course the big elephants in the room are Mafia II and Metroid: Other M. I’m interested in both and will be eager to see how they end up.

I’m glad that my favorite genre, the beat-’em-up, has been making a comeback this year. It’s mainly thanks to the digital download services available making for a great platform for classic arcade style games. With that said one thing that’s usually missing from these new beat-’em-up games is online play.

Past examples of this are Revenge of the Wounded Dragons and Watchmen: The End Is Nigh. This is also the case with new games like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Shank. They’re both games I’d like to get and probably still will eventually, but it’s definitely a bummer. Sure Castle Crashers, which is going to PSN next week, is online, but it’s unfortunately the exception and not the rule.

The one game I will be getting regardless of reviews, unless it ends up being a very sloppy port, will be the light gun dual game package Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack.

Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack (WII)
Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar (DS)
Mafia II (PS3, PC, X360)
NHL 2K11 (WII)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (X360)
Shank (PS3, X360)
Worms Reloaded (PC)

Ace Combat: Joint Assault (PSP)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition (PS3, X360)
Castle Crashers (PS3)
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero (X360)
Divinity II: Flames of Vengeance (PC, X360)
Metroid: Other M (WII)
Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Episode 5 (PS3, PC, MAC)
Valkyria Chronicles II (PSP)

E3 2010 As I Saw It: The EA Press Conference

I was on twitter during the whole conference throwing out my thoughts. Here’s a straight copy and paste of what I had said. Mind the language if that’s not your thing.

* The EA conference starts off with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit by Criterion. Looks like fun. Out Nov. 16th.

* I’m also found the Hot Pursuit NFS games to always be the best of the series. This doesn’t look disappointing.

* This redwood forest track reminds me of a similar track from Hot Pursuit 2.

* Dead Space 2 with screenshots. It’s not my type of game, but looks good for fans of it. Looks even better in game.

*The sound effects sound really nasty which is a very good thing for Dead Space.

* More of Dead Space 2 promised at Sony’s conference.

* New game from a franchise last seen 3 years ago. What could it be? It’s Medal of Honor.

* Live 24 player on stage demo. I see a tech goof coming up.

* MoH is out Oct. 12th. Problem is that it looks like Call of Duty. I don’t care for that game either. Beta on Xbox, PS3, PC on June 21st.

* EA Gun Club announced.

* It’s a rewards program with a terrible name. Pointless!

* Battlefield Bad Company 2 expansion pack announced for Vietnam war.

* EA Sports MMA talk with Peter Moore who will likely lie more about the EA Online Pass.

* EA Sports Live Broadcast shown with MMA footage. It isn’t anything I care about.

* I don’t see the point of making a “hype video” when it’ll just become a racist rant as if we don’t get enough of that on XBL.

* More lame exercise with EA Active 2.

* Active 2 is on all platforms obviously being the same on Wii, using PS Eye on PS3, and Kinect on X360.

* This being on Kinect is redundant with what Microsoft already showed in Your Shape: Fitness Evolved.

* Madden 11 is claiming to be simpler and deeper. I’m seeing it as more of the same.

* Joe Montana on stage with Peter Moore.

* I totally lost on what Montana and Moore are even talking about. What happened to just showing the game and it speaking for itself.

* Sim 3 = Me not caring

* Again what’s this guy talking about? Nobody interested in The Sims cares or wants to hear this nonsense.

* The Sims 3 on consoles got a very tepid crowd response.

* John Riccitiello calls out Insomniac, Respawn, and Epic for joining up with the EA Partners program.

* Crysis 2 gameplay footage being shown. It looks fantastic as I’d expect no less from Crytek.

* I just may be on the look out for this on the PS3.

* Crisis 2 joins the 3D craze with a version that’s compatible for each system.

* Cliffy B out with a couple of devs from People Can Fly talking about Bulletstorm.

* I honestly feel that if it wasn’t for Epic helping out that Bulletstorm wouldn’t get the attention that it deserves.

* I will say that it’s nice that EA has firm release dates set for a majority of their games.

* Did one of the Bulletstorm characters just say “You just scared the dick out of me?”

* Star Wars: The Old Republic on now. I’d like there to be less Star Wars, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

* BioWare presents “Hope.” Huh?

* An interesting trailer, but not being a fan means it does nothing for me.

* I was surprised that nobody from EA even brought up the Online Pass. It was probably for the best.

Overall much better than MS put on. Sure there were some slow boring parts, but still lots of good stuff came from it. Highlights for me were Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit followed by Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm.
