As I Saw It: E3 2012 EA Press Conference

PLEASE NOTE: This is my comments from Twitter that I made as the conference happened. If you can’t handle a difference of opinion from your own, then please DO NOT read this or comment.

* EA’s conf. has begun. Expecting suckage.

* Caution: Rich, out-of-touch man on stage.

* Dead Space 3 trailer. Go, go “spine-tingling.”

* Live demo lacks the, oh I don’t know, spine-tingling I was promised. What am I watching? RE6?

* RT @lightwarrior179: Dead Space 3 has morphed into a cousin of Gears and Lost Planet and it is so obvious I feel Captain Obvious threatening me from afar.

* Nice try at the end of the demo to claim you are still scary. #fail

* Madden NFL ’13 tells you that you aren’t good enough. :P

* The new Infinity engine. To “Infinity” and beyond.

* Michael Irvin talking about biting too much. Next thing you know he’ll go for the guy’s ear.

* Speaking of retirement: This game series needs to retire.

* Maxis rep. out to Facebook your Simcity. Subtitled “Social.”

* RT @jeffgerstmann: Dude behind us is losing it at every announcement. Simcity Facebook? “Oohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!”

* New Simcity shown (main version). Never been a fan so no comment. Has multiplayer.

* Battlefield 3 theme sounds like it’s used for torture.

* “Premium” service is just EA wanting some of that “Elite” money.

* Did that say “Own More?” According to companies like EA, I don’t own anything, I license it.

* Please remove this from my screen. That IP is old alright…and stale.

* Time for Mega Beard to tells us about Medal of Honor: Warfighter. You know, more CoD. *rolls eyes*

* Reminder: Middle East = topical, Arabs speak English.

* RT @lightwarrior179: Medal of Honor. Do they still have those ULTRA-realistic beards? Or is the focus on MAN-chest hair this time?
Reply::Beard and chest hair DLC.

* RT @lightwarrior179: No pubes? Or is that a secret mod reserved for the “Hot Coffee” DLC?
Reply::No Comment ROFL!

* Okay, @EA, enough with the ULTRA MAN GAMES!

* All of these FPS CoD games are making me want to dislike the movie Black Hawk Down. Screw them!

* RT @JimSterling: In Medal of Honor: GunGunGun, weld guns to your guns so the guns shoot guns at an army of giant guns armed with giant guns.

FIFA ’13
* I hate to break it to this FIFA guy, but he must be told. You aren’t innovative! You’re simulating real life. NOT innovative!

* FIFA 13 is also not any sort of revolution. Just stop. I don’t buy marketing speak, numbnuts.

* Hey, look! It’s Dana White! EA found a bigger douchebag than themselves.

* Herp, derp is all I hear out of Dana’s mouth.

* Need For Speed; Most Wanted? Criteron is making it, but didn’t we already get a “Most Wanted?”

* I wish they’d go back to Burnout. Crash doesn’t count!

* It’s pretty obvious by fan reactions: They want a new Burnout instead.

* RT @lightwarrior179: Most Wanted seems closer to Burnout Paradise than one would have imagined. That’s a good thing of course.
Reply:: Damn right. Let’s hope so anyway.

* Demo time for Crysis 3. It’s another shooter. It had better do different things than BF, CoD, or MoH and more of it.

* “If you’re watching on the Internet, thanks for being here.” I’m not sure how I’m able to be there. Johnny’s a bit confused on how the Internet works.

E3 2011: Microsoft Press Conference

PLEASE NOTE: This is my comments from Twitter that I made as the conference happened. If you can’t handle a difference of opinion from your own, then please DO NOT read this or comment.

* First up for the Microsoft press conf. is, you guessed it, a shooter. It’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Yawn!

* Honestly, why are they showing this game. Everybody knows what to expect and they buy it. I won’t, but this was already known too.

* Good thing a guy is shown playing. I always thought video games played themselves. Heck they kind of do nowadays.

* Tomb Raider reboot up now. This is one game that seems interesting to me.

* Peter Moore out for EA Sports imagining Kinect crap.

* I think I speak for all Mass Effect fans when I say Mass Effect 3 doesn’t need Kinect support.

* Ubisoft with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. How may E3s has this been at now? At least 2.

* Can Kinect make taking a piss more “fun” too?

* TV doesn’t need to be “improved” with Kinect. A person’s voice isn’t standardized, but the remote is. I’ll take the “so horrible” remote.

* The INTERNET itself finds things better than Xbox Live.

* Entertainment with Xbox IS NOT the way I want it. It’s the way YOU want it Microsoft and that sucks!

* Dana White [UFC President]? He adds nothing being here expect for maybe getting an attitude with someone.

* Awww. It’s CliffyB & Ice-T for Gears of War 3. How cute.

* Crytek with Ryse trailer and now Halo history trailer for Halo 1 remake.

* Forza 4 trailer shown. Now Peter Molyneux on to over promise with the newest Fable game.

* Minecraft getting an Xbox release. I still don’t understand the appeal of it.

* Dinseyland Adventures for the Kinect looks like Home.

* [Kids on stage playing a demo.] “Oh no the Queen! Fistbump!” *rolls eyes*

* [Star Wars Kinect game pops on screen.] Clearly people are programmed to cheer anything Star Wars related. Stop it!

* Double Fine with their Sesame Street game.

* It’s Tim Schafer and, of course, we have to act like everything he does is so damn wonderful.

* It’s time for that wacky Kudo Tsunoda!

* That’s a lot of cheering for Avatar features.

* Kinect Sports 2 up now. AKA Wii Sports Resort.

* You can’t become #1 console in the world if the Japanese aren’t buying it.

* Halo 4 teaser for 2012 ends the show.

New Releases 2010: May 23-June 5

Let me just say that this month has proven to be nuts when it comes to new game releases. It’s one of those “I want them all,” but you decidedly know that won’t be possible unless you can spare a few hundred dollars.

As far as the latter half of May goes, Blur and Soldner-X 2 both look interesting. I wasn’t all that taken in by the demo for ModNation Racers. The steering of the karts was very loose. Much more so than I’d like. I’m also not a fan of drifting being on a button. I’d prefer it as a technique that’s learned over time.

I suspect that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be the one game wanted more than all others. So I guess my question to you is which game will you possibly get to accompany SMG2?

Blur (PS3, PC, X360)
Metal Torrent (DS)
ModNation Racers (PS3, PSP)
Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype (PS3)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (WII)
Tetris Party Deluxe (WII, DS)
UFC 2010 Undisputed (PS3, X360)

Alpha Protocol (PS3, PC, X360)
Backbreaker (PS3, X360)
Green Day: Rock Band (PS3, X360)
Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow (PS2)
The Sims 3: Ambitions (PC, MAC)

New Releases 2009: May 10-23

Battlestations: Pacific (PC, X360)
Desktop Tower Defense (DS)
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (WII)
Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (PS3, X360)
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2 – Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon (PS2)

As you can see above, this week isn’t really showing anything that I’d eventually get. However, the Shin Megami Tensei series has always been one of high quality, so I can recommend Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2 to those that enjoy those games wholeheartedly.

Bionic Commando (PS3, X360)
Boom Blox Bash Party (WII)
Punch-Out (WII)
Steal Princess (DS)
Terminator Salvation (PC, PS3, X360)
UFC 2009 Undisputed (PS3, X360)

For the second week it’s looking much better. I wasn’t anything other than confused with the UFC demo and the Terminator game’s an iffy choice since it’s a movie tie-in, but some may like them. I know that many are looking forward to Punch-Out, but I’ll be picking the other series revival in Bionic Commando. From what I’m hearing from those in the beta, multiplayer is sounding really good.

Code Name: Viper (NES)
Truxton (GEN)

These last two games are ones that I’ve known of for many years and only just now tried them out. Both are excellent games worth finding and picking up if you’re looking for something that’s not so new, but terrific all the same.

Code Name: Viper (released in Japan as Ningen Heiki Dead Fox) is an action platform shooter by Capcom for the NES. It ranges in price from $1.00-$7.50.

Truxton (known in Japan as Tatsujin) is a great early shoot-’em-up for the Genesis by Toaplan. It ranges in price from $5.00-$15.00.

A pretty cheap alternative, wouldn’t you say? That’ll do it for this time. Thanks for stopping by.

UFC 70: Nations Collide

UFC 70: Nations Collide would normally be on pay-per-view everywhere, but within the U.S. and Canada it was available for free on Spike TV. A total of ten fights were on the card for the live Manchester crowd. Only five matches were aired, but four of them were fairly entertaining.

The fight of the night was, without a doubt, the dominate performance of Manchester, England’s own Michael Bisping in his 2nd round TKO win against Elvis Sinosic. A really close runner-up was Mirko Cro Cop vs. Gabriel Gonzaga. Going into this fight Gonazga wasn’t given a chance by many people to get an upset win over the always dangerous Cro Cop. However, he did shock everybody with a crazy head kick that KOed Cro Cop. This win put Gonzaga next in line to challenge for the Heavyweight Championship.

Other Featured Matches:
* Terry Etim defeated Matt Grice by submission at 4:48 in the 1st round by guillotine choke.
* Andrei Arlovski defeated Fabricio Werdum by unanimous decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round.
* Cheick Kongo defeated Assuerio Silva by majority decision at 5:00 in the 3rd round.

Overall it was a great show. I would’ve gladly watched the knock-out kick by Gabriel Gonzaga ten more times before watching the opening match of Cheick Kongo vs. Assuerio Silva again. But, that’s really a small complaint for a show that would normally be on PPV.
