Best Buys For Non-Wish List

Usagi704 decided it was time to only pick up Game Boy Advance games which are complete and in the box. As I’d shown off last friday, I do have such GBA titles in that very condition! However, I’m personally not against getting a hard-to-find or rare game as cartridge only if that means I’ll finally own it. This brings us to The King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood. This was a game Usagi had in the past and this was his second time purchasing it, but since he wanted a complete copy I opted to buy this one off of him.

This week (or at least this last Sunday for me) I went to Best Buy and selected to purchase Infamous 2, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and God of War Origins Collection. I didn’t have any of these on my wish list even though I did think about getting them before (sans God of War Origins Collection since I already had a used copy). I figured I might as well this time around since they were only $15 each.

Keeping on the topic of games not on my wish list. I found Onimusha 3: Demon Siege for the PlayStation 2 for $6. It’s the only other title in the Onimusha series which interests me outside of the fourth game, Dawn of Dreams (already have). The first two titles are controlled Resident Evil style which didn’t look like it worked very well for the type of action that’s on display. I have to have a dose of Jean Reno. :D

Post E3 Game Thoughts 2011 – Part 2

This is the continuation of my thoughts of games at E3.

Saints Row: The Third – Three words. Over the top. This third game is even more so than Saints Row 2. I was expecting just more in the style of the last game, but this craziness has been turned up to 20. The GS stage demo was quite hilarious.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time – Because I had my fill of the Sly Cooper games after just playing the second one, I don’t see myself getting the Sly Collection. However, this game looks fantastic and more so than I was expecting. It looks to be more of what made the previous three games great. I just hope it doesn’t overstay its welcome this time.

Tomb Raider – I remember this series not interesting me in the slightest until I saw Tomb Raider: Legend in action. I’ve been a fan ever since and this reboot looks cool. I’m sure most of the game is of a traditional style and isn’t comprised of the game’s beginning that was shown at E3 this year. I think it was a mistake to focus only on it which gave rise to Heavy Rain like comments. Here’s to hoping for better the next time it’s shown.

Twisted Metal – On the GameSpot stage this year they showed off the Iron Maiden boss battle. It took place in a canyon setting with the Dollface character controlling this huge robot. I’m not exactly sure what all of the objectives were, but there were quite a few. The biggest blow to my excitement for this game came when David Jaffe was saying that this boss battle would take 30 minutes at least and an average of an hour for most players. I don’t like this at all. In fact, now that I think about it, I don’t usually enjoy the boss battles in the Twisted Metal series. They always feel impossible and take forever. I’m looking at you Head On. I think I should admit it right here and now that I’m probably no where near the fan of this series that I thought I was.

Street Fighter X Tekken
Uncharted: Golden Abyss

E3 2011: Sony Press Conference

PLEASE NOTE: This is my comments from Twitter that I made as the conference happened. If you can’t handle a difference of opinion from your own, then please DO NOT read this or comment.

* Sony loves their montages and start with one as usual.

* Jack Tretton out to mention the PSN outage first and get it out of the way. Good move. [Pun intended? You decide.]

* Uncharted 3 out first with live demo.

* RT @Monodo: Uncharted 3 looks amazing. as expected. That attention to detail in the animations is breathtaking

* What can I say? It’s Uncharted and that’s a good thing.

* “We’re going to sell a few copies of that bad boy.” Jack being funny outdoes the fakeness of Aaron Priceman at Ubisoft conf.

* Up next on sequel theater is Resistance 3.

* I’m not really expecting to get Resistance 3. I feel got my fill with Resistance 2.

* God of War Origins Collection announced giving the PSP games an HD update on PS3. Trophy support pretty much seals my fate on getting this.

* NBA 2K12 = naptime for @stripesonfire. XD

* Medieval Moves: Dead Man’s Quest is…wait for it…a Move game. Shocking, I know.

* After NBA 2K12 and Medieval Moves, Infamous 2 is a good change to not-suck, but we already know about it and it’s out tomorrow.

* Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time out in 2012. That’s a bit longer of a wait than I thought it would take.

* Need For Speed: The Run should be renamed “Not For Speed: The Foot Race.”

* PlayStation Vita with dual analog sticks. No more crying about that lacking on PSP, but I’m still waiting for those same people to look at the 3DS and whine for the lack of it. I’m not going to hold my breath.

* On the name of PS Vita sucking. ALL game console names suck. You’ve just gotten used to them. The same will be true here.

* Street Fighter X Tekken on Vita with Infamous’ Cole as guest character? Pretty sweet!

* By the sound of it, the AT&T exclusive deal with Sony on Vita means most won’t bother with the $299 3G model.

* RT @Larrrk: “When they come out with a smaller Vita next year, they can call it the Vita-Min!”

* I’m quite surprised they spent time on Infamous 2, a game out tomorrow, and didn’t mention Twisted Metal at all.

2010 Game of the Year

Now I present my 2010 Game of the Year award winner. If you want to see the nominee list, check out my previous blog post.

2010 Game of the Year: Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil
Runner-up: Mirror’s Edge

When I was narrowing the choices down from the initial 12 nominees to the final five those games were:

Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil
Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Mirror’s Edge
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Metroid: Other M

I pretty much knew right away I’d want Klonoa 2 as my Game of the Year. It’s probably the best platformer on the PS2.

I also knew I wouldn’t be choosing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Sure I liked the game a lot as I did with all the games I nominated, but I had played this style of game before. This would explain why I didn’t choose God of War II, III, or Ghost of Sparta. All three are really fun, but there was just too much of that series too quickly.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves wasn’t chosen because the game overstayed a bit too long. I had my fill of the series with just this game.

For my runner-up I was thinking about placing Metroid: Other M in this slot mainly to spite those who thought along the lines of “daddy issues” like the X-Play review. However, in the end I had to give it to Mirror’s Edge for one of the more original games I’ve played in many years.
