The Royal Rumble is coming to PPV tomorrow and what better way to celebrate the return of my Internet connection than to throw out my predictions on the matches scheduled for the event. Let’s get to it!
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship Big Show vs. Kurt Angle vs. JBL
There are many ways for this match to end that would work going towards WrestleMania 21. One way would be for Kurt Angle to win the title and then take on the Big Show. However, that wouldn’t work well if the rumors of Angle wanting to work with the Undertaker are true. The way I see it going down this Sunday at the Royal Rumble is that JBL will retain, once again, only to face off against the Big Show in March. Doing it this way not only makes since storyline wise, but also frees up Angle to have a one-on-one match with the Undertaker.
My Choice: JBL
Casket Match Undertaker vs. Heidenreich
The last time these two went at it was at the Survivor Series PPV. It wasn’t a pretty sight and I seriously doubt that it will be any better this time. The only difference now is that it will be a casket match. This has to be the final match in this lackluster feud so that the Undertaker can go on the work with Kurt Angle for WrestleMania 21. The only thing that stands in their way would likely be the upcoming Smackdown only February PPV, No Way Out.
My Chioce: Undertaker
World Heavyweight Championship Triple H vs. Randy Orton
Triple H was stripped of the World Title last December and then regained it three weeks ago at New Year’s Revolution. At that time I thought that Randy Orton might walk out of the Elimination Chamber with the title, but it wasn’t to be. Some believe that now Orton will become World Champion once again. However, this time it won’t happen. Batista is the likely favorite to win the Royal Rumble match to meet the World Heavyweight Champion in the main event at WrestleMania 21. I see it as Triple H vs. Batista.
Evoution will crumble and at WrestleMania 21 Batista will become World Heavyweight Champion. To get there, though, Triple H will have to take out Orton here and now.
My Choice: Triple H
Shawn Michaels vs. Edge
Taboo Tuesday back in October is where this all started. Shawn Michaels barely beats Edge in fan voting to face Triple H for the World Title. Later that night, Edge interferes and costs Michaels the match. Shawn got this revenge on Edge a few weeks ago at New Year’s Revolution by Superkicking Edge and counting him down for the count to be the first eliminated from the match. Now these two will go one-on-one in what I feel should be a WrestleMania 21 match. It still could be and if that’s still in WWE’s plans then they should split the wins in half.
My Choice: Edge
Royal Rumble Match
I can’t explain much when it comes to battle royal type matches, but I don’t feel that anyone on Smackdown will be winning it this year. This year will find a RAW Superstar win this match. It shall be none other than Evolution’s animal, Batista. Big Dave’s win will set the start of Evolution’s demise as a powerful faction. This group has been in main event after main event since its inception back in 2002. That era will finally meet its end at the Royal Rumble this Sunday.
Starting tomorrow and going until this Sunday, the WWE is going to have three Royal Rumble Qualifying matches at, of all events, house shows.
In Minneapolis, MN tomorrow it will be The Hurricane vs. Simon Dean. I expect Simon (aka ECW’s Nova) to get the win in this match. In Kitchener, Ontario on Saturday it’ll be Rene Dupree vs. Paul London. Since London hasn’t been doing anything notable since his feud with Billy Kidman, I expect former La Resistance member, Rene Dupree, to capture the Rumble spot. And lastly, on Sunday in Halifax, NS, the Basham Brothers will take on Hardcore Holly & Charlie Haas. The Bashams become the WWE Tag Team Champions later today on Smackdown. So, you know they’ll get a spot in the Royal Rumble.
That’s my mini predictions for some pre-Rumble matches. We’ll see how they turn out starting tomorrow.
