GamePro #266 Isn’t Very Good

gamepro266notgood

GamePro issue 266 would be the current November offering and overall it’s pretty disappointing.

I did like the Inbox section with some of the reader opinions on stories and articles from past issues.

Then we get the guest written articles. The first one on Bit.Trip Runner doesn’t interest me since the Bit.Trip series hasn’t ever looked like fun. Equally as unexciting and skippable was the column on Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Why does anybody care about these games anymore? Do not answer that question. I was being facetious. My travels through I-don’t-caresville continues with an article about games on the Apple store.

The big Fall Preview cover feature was next. It covers almost 30 games, but most of them are already released making it pointless to read. Just look at this list below. When I received this issue last week most of this section was outdated.

The best article in the whole magazine was on, of all things, the NES controller! I also enjoyed the look back at the history of NBA Jam by Aaron Thomas.

Unlike the previous two weeks I’m only seeing one maybe for these upcoming releases in Mega Man Zero Collection. Granted I’ve never played any of them before, but I did get the original game back in mid-March. I’ve been wondering what game to play after I just completed Sly 2: Band of Thieves earlier this week (review) so maybe that’ll be how to know for sure.

Other than that I don’t see anything else interesting.

Let me just say that this month has proven to be nuts when it comes to new game releases. It’s one of those “I want them all,” but you decidedly know that won’t be possible unless you can spare a few hundred dollars.

As far as the latter half of May goes, Blur and Soldner-X 2 both look interesting. I wasn’t all that taken in by the demo for ModNation Racers. The steering of the karts was very loose. Much more so than I’d like. I’m also not a fan of drifting being on a button. I’d prefer it as a technique that’s learned over time.

I suspect that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be the one game wanted more than all others. So I guess my question to you is which game will you possibly get to accompany SMG2?

NEW GAMES FOR THE WEEK OF 5/23
Blur (PS3, PC, X360)

Out of all of the games listed below it’s undeniable which one will outsell them all. That’s obviously Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Even with that said, there’s been quite a bit of talk about Dragon Age: Origins during the last few weeks leading up to its release.

My interests lie with Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier and Need for Speed: Nitro on the DS.

Where do your interests lie?

The next couple of weeks are pretty stacked for new game releases. I’m personally not seeing anything that I’d want to pick up outside of a small interest in Dirt 2 for this week and Wet for the next.

I know a bunch of people will be looking forward to Scribblenauts. I’m cautious about the game because it seems like all the hype surrounding the game’s main gimmick might make the novelty wear off sooner than one would hope.

The PC will be getting a trilogy of console ports in two weeks time that include Batman: Arkham Asylum, Red Faction: Guerrilla and Resident Evil 5.

Dirt 2 (WII, PS3, PSP, PC, X360, DS)

New Releases 2009: July 12-25

As you can see from the above graphic, my pick for the next two weeks of releases is The King of Fighters XII. It’s another 2D beauty along with BlazBlue. Just to let you know the date is conflicting on several sites. Some say July 20-21 and others mention the 28th.

The other release that I’m interested in is the collection that includes my Game of the Month from March, Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience. Both parts 1 & 2 of the game plus the Blu-ray director’s cut edition of the film will be available at $50 for the PS3. Xbox owners will be able to get the game sans the movie for $30.

NEW GAMES FOR THE WEEK OF 7/12
Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! (PSP)
NCAA Football 10 (PS2, PSP, PS3, X360)
