I also got my first two platinum trophies within the previous 12 months. The first one came along back in March with Burnout Paradise and the second one was captured more recently in November with God of War.

In some interesting trivia about my game collection (idea from DuncanR2N), the oldest game I own is Dodge ‘Em for the Atari 2600. This is an estimate since it’s extremely hard to find more than just the year of 1980 for a release date. GameSpot has it listed for 1978 so it’s obviously not known for sure.

The newest game I own is a lot easier to look up. It would be Pandemic’s final game The Saboteur which was released a month ago.

On my wish list the oldest game that I’m looking to get is the NES version of Konami’s Gradius which was released on December 1, 1986.

The newest game that I’d like to have (mainly because I’m a big fan of beat-’em-up games) is Revenge of the Wounded Dragons on the PSN. It was released 23 years and 9 days after Gradius on December 10, 2009.

Coming up soon I’ll have my Game of the Year announced. Game on!

RRW – Day 3: RayStorm / E3 As I Saw It: The Nintendo Press Conference

I originally scheduled to play RayStorm at the end of the week, but looking at the big day of E3 that we had, I’m glad I switched out Duke Nukem: Time To Kill. with it.

This was the first time I’d ever played this arcade shoot-’em-up. It’s lots of fun and I think you’ll agree with me on that after watching this video that I recorded. I didn’t do as well as I had liked in the three stages that I recorded, but again it was really fun.

I suggest checking this game out if it looks interesting to you. You can find it on several platforms like the original PlayStation, Saturn (as Layer Section II), and the way I played it; Taito Legends 2 on PS2. The Xbox version of the same compilation has RayForce instead.

* dr4cul4 honors us all with some play time on Shinobi III.
* The Sega CD gets more love with Snatcher as played by Darkbeat.
* Usagi704 gives a great effort in Capcom’s shoot-’em-up Varth.
* Mortal Kombat II shows up again this time curiosity of dr4cul4.
* Chariot was on tap from Capcom’s Three Wonders arcade game for Usagi704.

See you next time for Day 4 with scheduled game Virtua Racing. Retro rules!

I was on twitter during most of the conference throwing out my thoughts. Here’s a straight copy and paste of what I had said. Mind the language if that’s not your thing.

* Starting off as expected. Nintendo gloats about their success.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
* I already can tell that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is nothing more than I a slightly upgraded port of the DS game. The first of many disappointments to come I’m sure.

* Please more slightly upgraded games, Nintendo. You know, because it’s somehow better.

* Ummm…Reggie? We’re know about the Wii. Stop showing this as if [the system is] not 2.5 years old.

Wii Sports Resort
* More upgrades. This time Wii Sports Resort. It’s not a sequel like they want you to think.

* More proof that the most imprecise controller is you.

* Money ball? Sounds like more gloating. Shut up! Geez.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story
* More of “your fans are idiots” moment. Reggie informs everyone what an RPG is.

* Mario & Luigi RPG 3 gets a corny sub-title: Bowser’s Inside Story.

* Gloating is Nintendo’s thing to do today. They’re now doing it again for the DS models.

* I didn’t think it was possible, but Nintendo it boring me more than Ubisoft did with their James Cameron talk.

* Yo, Iwata. Shut the fuck up about how “awesome” you and Nintendo are. You’re not awesome if you have to tell me. I’ll figure it out for myself thank you very much!

Super Mario Galaxy 2
* I’m so happy that Cammie is ALLOWING for a second Mario game on the same system. Permission was needed for some reason.

Metroid: Other M
* “Other M?” What kind of sub-title is that?

* Metroid: Other M is not “edgy” or violent. It’s Nintendo.

* That’s it Nintendo? Wow! That conf. was a huge bag of fail chips with an extra side of weak sauce.
