New Releases 2011: April 17-May 7

A few game compilations getting released this week. One in particular, Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD, is a kick in the balls for me as I imported it not too long ago. It wasn’t nearly as cheap as it will be now.

The single huge title for all of these next three weeks is obviously the new Mortal Kombat. I’m sure I’ll get it eventually, but it’s not a day one purchase like it used to be. It did have me excited for the longest time out of any game I was looking forward to from E3 last year.

As Summer gets closer the big name releases are drying up. This is looking to be the case when seeing the amount for the latter two weeks with only MotorStorm: Apocalypse being worthy of note.

NEW RELEASES for the WEEK of 4/17
Arcana Heart 3 (PS3)
Assassin’s Creed: Ultimate Collection (PC)
Brothers in Arms: Complete Collection (PC)
Conduit 2 (WII)
Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection (PSP)
Mortal Kombat (PS3, X360)
Portal 2 (PS3, X360, PC, MAC)
Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD (PS3)
SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs (PS3)
Section 8: Prejudice (X360)

NEW RELEASES for the WEEK of 4/24
Operation Flashpoint: Red River (PC)
ZEN Pinball: Sorcerer’s Lair (PS3)

NEW RELEASES for the WEEK of 5/1
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury (X360)
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Escalation (X360)
MotorStorm: Apocalypse (PS3)
Section 8: Prejudice (PC)
Thor: God of Thunder (PS3, X360, WII, DS)

E3 2010 As I Saw It: The Sony Press Conference

I was on twitter during most of the conference throwing out my thoughts. I had missed Killzone 3 and an announcement for the Sly Cooper Collection (think God of War Collection), but otherwise I saw everything else. Here’s a straight copy and paste of what I had said. Mind the language if that’s not your thing.

* Move talk as expected. Hopefully it’s at a minimum.

* Move: You’re in the game. No! Ahhhh!

* Not showing me the same things again? Wow a company with a brain.

* This is Harry Potter based on the look in the very least.

* Character changes to a rat gets an applause. I’m scared of them now. :P

* Get your Harry Potter knock-off next Spring. (lol)

* Move for Tiger Woods golf. This will likely be good time for a break.

* Swing the club already!

* They’re piping in fake ass golf claps. It’s kind of annoying.

* Heroes on the Move, eh?

* Six of Sony’s characters, but nothing really explained. Fail!

* Kevin Butler comes out and gets an applause.

* KB wants to focus on the games. As do I!

* Move in EU Sept. 15, NA on Sept 19. Details here.

* New Time Crisis quickly announced for Move.

* God of War: Ghost of Sparta teaser shown. Looks great as usual!

* They’re really glossing over the PSP stuff. Despite what they say things don’t seem to be changing on that platform.

* PSN talk with 50 million users.

* The Tester has another season. No! That was crap!

* LittleBigPlanet 2 with Alex Evens on stage now. I will likely not be getting this. I didn’t play the original all that much.

* LBP2 has pointless minigames. I’ve seen those before. :(

* I gotta say that I’m over the look of LBP. It doesn’t appeal to me anymore.

* A slam on Xbox about charging for online play.

* PlayStation Plus gets you early demos/betas, special themes and the like. 3 mo. for $18 on low end. More info here.

* I’m not going to be purchasing the optional PS Plus.

* That guy has got to be the one on the Medal of Honor cover. (lol) Mega beard!

* Unlockable breads! The guy on stage said that he did so with his 20 mins. ago. (lol)

* MoH multiplayer maps shown. Again, it looks like Call of Duty. Not interested.

* A PS3 exclusive HD version of MoH Frontline? Give me now!

* Dead Space 2 exclusive pack with Extraction on Move announced.

* Gabe Newell in on the Sony stage with Portal 2! Never say never! Wow! Not expected.

* Gabe still needs punched for his previous comments, in my opinion.

* First brief look at Portal 2.

* Brief video of MMO Final Fantasy XIV. Great if that’s your thing.

* Multiplayer beta only on PS3 for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

* I’m not sure how Assassin’s Creed will play against others. Doesn’t seem like a good fit.

* Another one of the many multi-game hype trailers.

* I’m not a fan of Gran Turismo, but I’ve always been amazed with the realistic graphics.

* It looks like the main character Cole with added hair for a better look which is good for a change of pace from the bald look.

* Surprise is…

* Twisted fucking Metal!

* David Jaffe and Scott Campbell on stage with Sweet Tooth! :D

* Online gameplay shown played by Jaffe and Campbell. Looks great as expected!

Overall I was pretty impressed by Sony’s showing this year. They had an okay start for me with a bit more on Move than I wanted, but Kevin Butler’s appearance was welcome and funny unlike Joel McHale for Ubisoft. Gabe Newell’s segment where he was finally humbled in front of a live crowd was great after hearing him talk trash for years. I loved the final showing of Twisted Metal.

New Releases 2008: March 30-April 12

Unlike the previous two weeks, this next week has nothing that I’ve heard of, with the only exception of Puzzle Quest and Cruis’n USA. I only added the PC game Women’s Murder Club just because the title is funny in a very odd way.

The following week looks to be Valve week as they’re releasing the games from the Orange Box separately for the PC platform. There’s also a SNK Playmore release and the Gamecube classic shoot-’em-up, Ikaruga, comes to Xbox Live Arcade.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (Mobile)
Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis (PS2)
Overclocked (PC)

Cruis’n USA (WVC)
Mr. Driller Online (XBLA)
Women’s Murder Club (PC)

Assassin’s Creed (PC)
Sam & Max Episode 205: What’s New, Beelzebub? (PC)
Ikaruga (XBLA)

Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 (PS2)
Arcana Heart (PS2)
Team Fortress 2 (PC)
Half-Life 2: Episode Pack (PC)
Portal (PC)

April 1st Note: In case you were wondering, the game Women’s Murder Club is real and not a joke for today. I don’t do April Fool’s jokes so don’t worry about that.

Also, don’t forget to check out the 5 things about me if you haven’t already. :)

PlayStation 3 & Portal

Some pretty good pricing news out of Sony. On November 2nd, the price of the 80GB PlayStation 3 will become $499. Also, the recently announced 40GB model will be available as well for the previously rumored price of $399.

For myself, I’d prefer the 80GB model. Not because of the backwards compatibility, but for the extra USB and memory card ports that are lacking on the 40GB model. I’ll be keeping my PS2 around so I won’t be needing the iffy PS2/PS1 support.

Now onto a cool hack for Half-Life 2. It seems that Portal excited some people at Primotech enough to make it so that the portal gun could be used in Half-Life 2. I imagine some pretty cool things happening when you merge the two. In fact, here’s a video showing it in action!
