Make These Jackals Work For Us

A sudden surprise of an addition to my gaming library was the Game Boy version of Adventure Island. And if you didn’t know it’s actually the second portable game and not the first as it may seem. Thanks to Usagi704, host of Mike at the Movies, for the game.

He’d also bought me the Back to the Future trilogy on Blu-ray as well. It was my birthday recently.

The Terminator, however, was my own purchase after the movie’s one-day rerelease into select theaters. I’d went to see it and it gave me a new appreciation for this movie in a few ways I didn’t expect. One of those ways was for the character of Lieutenant Ed Traxler played by Paul Winfield. His humor was hilarious and Traxler is now my favorite character of the 1984 film.

Thanks for reading and check out the above link to Mike at the Movies and also the podcasts here on this site.

Fun With Fighting Games

Since the release of Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition and Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, I’ve been playing them quite a bit, but not because I own them. Thanks to Usagi704 he’s been my competition lately in mainly 3rd Strike and Mortal Kombat II.

On my systems I play the former on the PS2 via the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection where my main character is Ken. His Super Art III is wicked and is very easy to link into from several of his others moves. I haven’t been all that great, but I’m having a great time with a game that I shunned from for far too long.

In the latter game of MKII I still bust out my original copy on the Super Nintendo. My two best characters are Raiden and Kung Lao. They helped me best one of Usagi’s better characters in Kitana. I can’t get her to work as well for me, though. Now he comes at me with Scorpion and I still haven’t worked out how to exactly shut his offense down. Sub-Zero and Liu Kang are my back up characters.

I get more free games. This time it’s thanks to the PlayStation Store itself. Back to the Future – Episode 1: It’s About Time is currently available for free to all until the 27th.

New Releases 2011: June 19-July 9

Happy Father’s Day! Have some new releases.

There’s not much I’m looking forward to in the coming three weeks. Only Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition really interests me. This has probably to do with the fact that I never bought Super SFIV. Oh well, it is the Summer months after all.

New Releases 2011: March 27-April 16

I would say the release of the 3DS this next week is the reason for so many games, but in reality most aren’t for said system. It’s just ridiculously stacked as this can easily be two weeks worth. It’s a good thing this is the case since the following week of April 3rd doesn’t have a single thing of note. Because of this the second list below is three weeks from now.

The interesting games of these three weeks for me are Rush’N Attack Ex-Patriot and WWE All Stars. Shift 2 Unleashed is another one, but it’s suddenly upon us. Talk about little to no marketing by EA.

New Releases 2011: February 13-26

Being a fan of the Contra series, I’m excited for Hard Corps: Uprising. I’ll just have to wait a bit longer for the PS3 version. With Splinter Cell: Conviction getting a release on the Macintosh I’m holding out some hope a PS3 port is in the cards at some point.

Okay, enough of what I wish to happen and onto what is happening that I’m interested in.

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I’m not looking to get Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at the moment. But I did hear it doesn’t play as close to its prequel as it does play more like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Still I’m not totally against eventually giving this game a look.

As with any game which gets a bad rap from shit mongers like Fox News, I will be getting a new copy of Bulletstorm at some point. Knowingly lying by saying such dumb shit from so-called “experts” like this game will make you want to rape will get any game my full support.

The Dreamcast Collection for the Xbox 360 consists of Sega Bass Fishing, Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5 Part 2, and Crazy Taxi for anybody wondering what’s included.

Back To The Future: Episode I (PS3)
Gears of War Triple Pack (X360)
Hard Corps: Uprising (X360)
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (PS3, X360)
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction (MAC)

Bejeweled Blitz Live (X360)
Bulletstorm (PS3, X360)
Dreamcast Collection (PC, X360)
EverQuest II: Destiny of Velious (PC)
Fallout: New Vegas – Dead Money (PS3, PC)
Killzone 3 (PS3)
Radiant Historia (DS)
Ys I & II Chronicles (PSP)
de Blob 2 (PS3, X360, WII, DS)

The Power of Platinum

A new movie bought plus a game completed. Check it out below.

When I checked in with you all two days ago I had said that I’d like to get the platinum trophy for God of War. I even laid out the plan to do it that I read in this forum thread on GameSpot.

Well as you might have guessed, I did it! As seems traditional when I do a speed run, my time came in just shy of the next hour at 2 hours and 56 minutes.

While there isn’t a trophy for beating the game on God Mode difficulty, there’s still a few things left to unlock in the Treasures menu.

Now with this awesome game completed it can make way for the previous games that I was working on; Ratchet: Deadlocked and Big Bang Mini.

I was looking to get the trilogy recently, but once I noticed that the three films were available separately starting at the beginning of this year, I decided to just get the original. It’s my favorite and it was the only one to come with a new second disc of extras.

The main feature of the second disc is the footage that was used for Back to the Future: The Ride at Universal Studios from around 1991-2007.

At the same time I also bought the original soundtrack. And by original I mean really original. It’s a newer pressing of the soundtrack, of course, but just by the looks of the track listing on the back you can tell the packaging wasn’t ever redone. It reeks of ’80s design choices with the yellow text on a plain light blue background.

That’ll do it for me. It’s Thanksgiving so take it easy. :)
