  1. STEAM REFUNDS: Refunds in my opinion should be applied if 1) You find the experience unsatisfactory and 2) The game is rendered unplayable/unpatchable. Two games I’d refund instantly (respectively) would be DLC Quest and the Mac port of Dungeon Defenders*. *I remembered spending my first and only hour trying to fix the performance using the game’s already-limited settings. That and I didn’t want to deal with their 20+ GB patch updates so I deleted the game afterward.

I don’t think length should ever be the main reason to request a digital refund (though I’m not against it being one of the many reasons) seeing that argument by itself is an invalid one. Then we see the recent drawbacks surrounding the Windows port of Arkham Knight and that for me is a good example of costumers taking advantage of the Steam refunds. Just saying.

BETHESDA: While most of the games they announced didn’t interest me (except for Dishonored and potentially DOOM 4), they did a solid press conference.

MICROSOFT: I admit their press conference was one of their better ones in recent years. Aside from their over-usage of “Exclusives”, they did pretty well. I still won’t invest in an Xbox One due to already being satisfied with my currently-owned Generation 8 hardware so far. Also, PRAISE THE SUN (even if it was only 2 minutes, lol)!!!

EA: Mass Effect: Andromeda and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. Moving on!

UBISOFT: I will say this: Aisha Tyler is the best host Ubisoft hired for their press conferences, given her fourth appearance since 2012. Other than that, none of Ubisoft’s offerings interested me.

SONY: It was awesomes. Need I say more.

NINTENDO DIGITAL EVENT: The muppet skits were spot on. The digital event overall, not so much.

SHENMUE 3: As long as Yu Suzuki is still alive, expect more Shenmue hype or whatever the hipster fans refer to it these days. *heh*

  2. Here is the world premiere of my comments exclusive to this post:

Gamestop buys Think Geek – That makes sense. They already sell that kind of stuff in their store, so this may be a good way to get more of it on their shelves. I can’t wait for them to stab holes in unsold merchandise with a screwdriver and throw it in the trash.

Uncharted re-release – Whatever the reason for not including the multiplayer, when the explanation includes words like “fracture the current player pool”, then it’s probably not the real answer. I’m not $ure what the real an$wer could be, but I $uspect that it may have tie$ to other rea$on$.

HEY! You leave my u’s alone! I use my u’s. They’re my favourite. You got rid of them because letters are scary for Americans. “AHH! SHORTEN THE WORDS!” Actually, I can drop a u every now and then. Do you want to watch me drop the most useless letters from North America? U, S, and A! ;)

Steam refunds – Giving money back for something someone bought from you that they didn’t like? What a novel idea for a retailer. This isn’t Kijiji; yes of course give refunds. Having a time limit makes sense though. I mean, a restaurant likely won’t make you pay if the food was no good, but not if you eat all of it before you complain. Two hours seems fair I guess, or at least a fair start. And even if your game is only 115 minutes long, if the person didn’t like it enough to play it again then it’s no good. It’s not that it’s too short, it’s that people don’t want to keep playing it.

GOW – GOW is exclusive to God of War.

VR – Just tell me when we get to the level of holodeck.

Backwards Compatibility – I admit at the time I was disappointed that PS2 games weren’t going to be supported on the PS3 (you know after that initial run of PS3s that did have it), but I’m not concerned about it any more. Yeah, I could use the shelf space, and I wouldn’t have to worry about finding ways to hook up all my crap to my TV, but those are minor things. I used to think “but it will be harder to find a PS2 once they stop getting made” but how long does that really extend the life? In the end, backwards compatibility is a nice idea (via hardware), but not having it is not worth the criticism. Besides, everything gets remastered anyway, so problem solved.

Season Passes – “They don’t necessarily want to be ripped off,” No not necessarily. “Hey you, do you want ripped off?” “Well… hmmm.. not necessarily.” Also in the news, people don’t want to necessarily want to be skinned alive. I can think of a word in his statement that isn’t necessarily required.
