1994 Game of the Year: Final Fantasy VI
Runner-up: Doom II

In 1994 I was much more into other genres, namely fighting games, that I really didn’t even give RPGs a glance. Fast forward to late last year and that’s when I played this version of Final Fantasy VI. I remember that getting through Kefka’s Tower was as epic as it was a pain, though I did enjoy every bit of it. The long ending wasn’t as amazing as I thought it would be. Maybe I happened to hype it up for myself a little too much after a number of times viewing the fourth part in the Gametrailers.com retrospective. Regardless of any of that I still did have lots of fun with the game.

Doom II was a great follow up to the original game. While it was more about new levels, enemies, and the double-barreled shotgun, it was still all fans of the first game needed to keep the game interesting and fun to play.
